Happy Holidaze

Happy Holidays!

I know ... I know ... I haven't been around lately. But while I am taking a second away from the hustle and bustle, just wanted to wish everyone out there a very Happy Holiday (whatever you may celebrate this time of year!)

Now ... sit back, relax, open up your presents, enjoy some hot chocolate, and be very, very glad this only happens once a year :) Peace, love, and joy.

Get ready to make a run for the border (Canada that is ...)

Are you a male or female between the ages of 18 and 26 (or do you have children who will fit that category someday)?? Then I recommend you inform yourself on the newest threat made by cronies of the Shrubbery. According to a DOD-related website posting, "The Selective Service System wants to hear from men and women in the community who might be willing to serve as members of a local draft board."

Add that to the Universal National Service Act of 2003 introduced in the House and Senate this year, which states "... It is the obligation of every U.S. citizen, and every other person residing in the United States, between the ages of 18 and 26 to perform a two-year period of national service, unless exempted, either as a member of an active or reserve component of the armed forces or in a civilian capacity that promotes national defense. Requires induction into national service by the President. Sets forth provisions governing: (1) induction deferments, postponements, and exemptions, including exemption of a conscientious objector from military service that includes combatant training; and (2) discharge following national service.
*Amends the Military Selective Service Act to authorize the military registration of females."

In the House: H.R. 163

In the Senate: S.89

Now I may just be a kitty, but that sounds awfully ominous. The possibility of reinstating the draft and including women in said draft ... particularly when I watch National Guard troops (in addition to the armed services) being deployed frequently into combat this year.

I'm not suggesting I have full knowledge on this, but if it concerns you (as it does me) ... I highly recommend you research this yourself and contact your senators and representatives. You can also add information in the comments if you wish.

THE DRAFT IS COMING BACK?

What do you think?

As a rabid SATC (Sex & the City) viewer ... I was really interested to put a topic of this week's episode up for debate.

Not a viewer? Go here for a synopsis of the episode.

Here is a post that addresses some of the issue ...
" (Many) adults with kids think the world has to adapt itself to them, their kids, and both sets of needs. As if they're automatically superior because they have children. The irony is that these parents think they're better because they're no longer selfish like single people. But these parents are every bit as selfish and self-obsessed; they just bring their kids into the circle and teach the tykes how to be as self-centered as they are - that the world revolves around them. "

So what do you think? Being single and childless, I often get the impression from some married with children people (not all mind you, but ...) that many things I consider important ... well, aren't in their eyes. A single person can often feel trivialized amongst the world of weddings and babies.

Now the restaurant thing ... I have a bone to pick there. Now before you start flaming me, I'm not saying "don't bring your kids to restaurants" ... but I am saying "don't bring your kids to adult restaurants if they do not know how to behave in an adult place!" Being in a VERY family-oriented place in this country, I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I wanted to ask some parents who are IGNORING their misbehaving children to PLEASE LEAVE IF YOU CAN'T CONTROL YOUR CHILD! Now I'm not so ignorant that I don't realize that kids have tantrums and fits, but I very strongly believe that it is the responsibility of the parents to take care of that situation ... I've seen strangers ask people to control their kids WAY too many times. What's the deal with that?

But that's just my opinion ... What do you think?
